HEALTHY MICROWAVE POPCORN 🍿😋 Who doesn’t love popcorn? It’s natures perfect snack. But do you know the health benefits of popcorn? On its own, it’s full of fiber, low in fat and calories, and a whole grain food.

How do you make your popcorn? Most of us pick up a quick box of the ole microwave variety, right? But have you ever looked at the ingredients on the box? You should. 😳 Some microwave popcorn has chemical called Diacetyl which gives then popcorn a buttery flavor and aroma. Studies have shown that this chemical can cause a lung disease, if inhaled in large quantities. The microwave popcorn bags also uses cancer-causing PFCs to line the inside of the bag to prevent grease and leakage. The ones labeled “butter” or “movie theater” contain hydrogenated trans fats, saturated fats, sodium and artificial ingredients. ICKY!

So…after all that, let’s make a healthier microwave popcorn that’s as easy as 1-2-3! I promise, it will be the best-tasting you’ve ever had. 🙌🏻

All you need is some popcorn kernels, a paper sack, and your favorite popcorn toppings. Let’s go!

Ingredients

1/4-1/2 cup any popcorn kernels (we used Orville Redenbacer’s)

1 paper sack

1/2-1 stick of real butter

Flaky Salt (or any salt will do really)

Directions

Add popcorn kernels to your paper sack. Fold top half of sack. Put in the microwave and select the “Popcorn” setting. Popcorn will pop perfectly inside the sack. When you hear the corn stop popping…it’s done! Don’t let it burn.

Pour popcorn into a large bowl. You can make more popcorn if you wish, but don’t put more than 1/4 to 1/2 cup into the paper sack at each time. The bag can only hold that amount.

Melt butter in a small saucepan over medium heat. Pour melted butter over popcorn and toss with a little salt, if you wish.

Pro Tip: You can also add garlic and herbs to your butter to create a gourmet flavored popcorn. Or any seasoning you like. Parmesan cheese is also delicious tossed with the butter. The options are endless! Enjoy your healthy microwave popcorn. You’ll never go back to the icky stuff.
